Audio: Alphabethead - Like A Boss

Alphabethead says...

Slim Thug is one of those rappers who I listen to not so much for what he says but how he says it. His voice is dense and cavernous and I love the way his syrupy flow blurs words. His tone reminds me of a baritone saxophone! Method Man, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and MF Doom are other rappers for whom I can just switch off the brain and let their timbre and cadence wash over me. As far as life and lyrical content goes Slim’s pretty much the polar opposite to me; I certainly don’t “supply all the rocks, sponsor all the spots”. I can only relate to his drug-toting tales filtered through what I’ve experienced second-hand in watching The Wire (an HBO TV series)!

With this tune I was aiming for an industrial, assembly-line feel. The song was originally meant to begin with the machine-talk groove that comes in at 3:10. On hearing the skeleton of this section Slim Thugs archaic flow was the first thing I thought of setting to the beat. I had to slow him down to a sluggish 68 BPM but with Slim Thugga even playing at half speed doesn’t really detract from his drawl! I hope you enjoy.

Audio: Alphabethead - Escalation

Alphabethead says...

Not really a composition as such, more a short ‘visual’ vignette. It’s a collaboration between you and me; my intention is that you will conjure up the mental images to accompany the track! I’m not going to divulge what appears when I hear the tune but it’s certainly a scene painted with thick, course brush strokes using predominately crimson, maroon, cobalt and byzantium. Anything I make by candle-light at 2am in the morning inevitably ends up with these tonal colours – I hope it’s not too much of a downer!

Audio: Alphabethead - Triangle

and Alphabethead says...

//\

My fascination with vinyl as a recorded medium goes far beyond the music pressed into the plastic. I’m interested in all the other properties of vinyl; the degradation of sound through repeated use, the percussive thumps of heavy turntable hands and of course the glorious fuzz and crackle of an old record. I’ve even purposely thrown my records around and danced on them to produce such artefacts. Many an idea has sprouted from having a record skip or accidently loop on a bit of grit. I’m not going to lie, it’s also all the ethereal aspects of vinyl I love; the worn sleeves, giant album artwork and ritual of playback. These are the primary reasons I’ve not yet fully embraced the digital vinyl systems.

That’s the beautiful thing about sampling from vinyl. You inherit not only the sound held within the grooves but also the life of that particular record. What has that record seen? How did its previous owners treat it? In buying second hand records I’ve found many historical ‘clues’ within the sleeves; love letters, homemade lyric sheets, 70’s pinup flicks, album review clippings, autographs scrawled on napkins and even a few of ‘crumbs’ of something pungent and green…

You’ve probably ascertained from my ramblings that I’m a bit smitten with vinyl. Well, I was. However, over the last few weeks I’ve had the wandering eye! I’ve made a departure from my usual ‘dusty not digital’ aesthetic and been building tunes completely from sounds generated with ‘virtual’ instruments and computer synthesis. Not a single vinyl record in sight! What sent me off on this tangent was a fantastic Soul Jazz compilation entitled “Future Bass”. This is a collection of ‘hyper’ clean, modern beat/bass music made (mostly) inside computers from synthesised sound. Yet, despite being built from layered sine, triangle and square waves, the tunes still sound so organic. The Ginz and Mala tracks especially. Synthesis of sound and this ability to breathe life into computer tones has really intrigued me.

“Triangle” is one of my attempts at an entirely digital production. It’s all made from my own computer generated sounds, the process of which has certainly given me a renewed respect for all those producing tracks this way. Wow – it can take so long to make all those sine/triangle/square waves dance! LFO (low frequency oscillators), automated filter sweeps, distortion and, of course, reverb were my little helpers.

I’m not sure if this track works of not? Omitting samples was fearful prospect! Never fear – I think it’s just a short foray away from the crates.

Free Download: N37 Modulation Mixtape

Free Download Alphabethead mixtape

and Alphabethead says...

G’Day buds,

Whenever I bring a stray piece of vinyl home my fervent hope, aside from it being good music, is to use it as source material in something. Unfortunately, due to my ‘habit’ it’s very hard to assimilate the relentless inflow of records. This recording was a conscious effort to utilize all the random records that had slipped through the cracks. I’d grab any unused LP in arms length of the turntable and set the goal of making a beat from it. This is certainly not a unique approach; many beat-makers set themselves such exercises as a challenge and to breakdown any preconceived notions of what ‘should’ be sampled. In sampling unconventional records I learnt about filtering songs to isolate bass and create muffled drones, amplify and affect record pops to make percussion and stretching and layering notes for textures.

Over 60 LP’s went into this one – mostly Sally Army or junk shop finds. Sample sources include; Frank Sinatra, Uriah Heep, Fiddler on the Roof, Gong, 3 Hur-El, Bach, Donovan, Silver Apples, Ravi Shankar, Santana, Stockhausen… Although it’s my fifth beat-tape, it’s the first I’ve presented in mixtape form with transitions, miscellaneous tit-bits of sound and segues between tracks. This one also includes some Hip Hop cutting!

I’m tickle pink with both ‘Tibetan Glitch Beat’ and ‘Two-Zero-One-Zero’. Both of these beats transcend their source material; I’ve no recollection of what records I sampled? They’ve been mangled and affected beyond recognition! When making sample-based music I feel I’ve succeeded when, rather than the old ‘Oh, he just slightly tweaked Kraftwerk’ type of response I elicit more of a ‘What the hell was that? Was it Frank Sinatra or Frank Zappa?’ The further removed my piece is from the original the better. This kinda sums up my thoughts on sampling. I have absolutely no qualms about using another artist’s work just as long as:

(a) The ‘sample’ of another piece of work is a ‘component’ or ‘element’ in the new work rather than the ‘crux’.

(b) The work can be viewed as a new composition in its own right and doesn’t decrease the artistic merit or impinge on the viability of the existing piece.

Of course what defines a ‘new composition’ or constitutes an ‘element’ is certainly a contentious issue. I’ve found that proving a piece of sample-based music is (at least) equal to the sum of its parts can be an uphill battle…

I’m glad to have finally weaved that classic Kiwi bloke Fred Dagg into a mix. I have a crate of lectures, theatre, advertisement and comedy records which I draw on as the garnishes for my mixes. Next stop for spoken-word samples Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan and Sam Hunt! The other track I was pleased with was ‘One-Nine-Eight-One’. In the second half all the samples (excluding drums) were pitched up an octave creating a dreamy vocoder effect (thank you Rza)! Please give it whirl…

For those still rocking a discman, hardcopies with covers and disc art are available for 8 NZ bucks.

Video: Alphabethead - Destroy All Monsters

Alphabethead's blog

The following words are from Alphabethead's blog....

Destroy All Monsters is yet another song inspired by a B-movie radio spot. This theme is becoming a bit of an obsession; peep my previous “Zombie” and “Crawling Thing” posts!

When I began DJing I had a single turntable and no real interest in being a ‘proper’ mix DJ playing dance clubs and making people boogie. My focus was on the manipulation of vinyl and making that beautiful-ugly-sound known as scratching. I would run home after school, loop up a beat and just scratch the night away! There were quite a few of us doing this is 2001 – they called us Turntablists or Scratch Nerds. Q-Bert, D-Styles, Mixmaster Mike, Toadstyle and the rest would release records with minimal rhythm tracks, heavy bass and half-time beats designed especially to elevate and accentuate scratching. This song is a throwback to the beats of that era. The fascinating thing is that the bass music and dubstep of today has some striking similarities with circa-2000 scratch beats. A couple of the more notable players in the new beat movement actually cut their teeth in the scratch scene; Hudson Mohawke, Lorn and The Gaslamp Killer. It would be interesting to trace the trajectory of dubstep and bass music in terms of Turntablism…

After finishing my track I found the actual movie trailer for “Destroy All Monsters” on Youtube and on playing them simultaneously couldn’t believe my eyes! The fit was uncanny – the monsters were trashing the capital cities of the world all to my beats! It was too good an opportunity to miss so last week I taught myself the basics of video editing and tried my damndest to fuse the two. For someone with no experience in video it certainly was an exercise in patience, concentration and pulling my damn hair out! This is probably the most rickety, lo-fi, third-generation-VHS-dub you’re gonna see this month. Embrace the pixilation!

The idea of equating turntable scratching to laser and missile-fire is certainly not new. Q-Bert’s fantastic Wave Twisters is a fire-fight packed, animated space odyssey scored entirely with turntables and heavy beats. Technical scratching and dubstep rhythms sure do sound like intergalactic warfare and hulking beasts sometimes!

DOWNLOAD: DESTORY ALL MONSTERS

I’m gonna visit Aro Video this week in search of the original Godzilla film of the same name – apparently it’s one of the classics in the “Giant Monster” canon.

Audio: Alphabethead - Springs Got Next

Alphabethead says...

Spring’s Got Next is a laid-back, sunny Hip Hop beat. I was trying to banish the blues and create the antithesis to Wellington’s wet, windy winter.

Rather than just let the beat loop I found guitar and flute solos on vinyl and cut them up to fit the track. I love taking unrelated jazz solos and chopping and screwing them to ride my beat. I’ve achieved some fascinating results from dislocating David S Ware and Marshall Allen sax solos and setting them to dubstep or down tempo grooves. The solos are probably totally out of key but it sounds great to me; at least they’re on beat! The guitar solo is from the Roland Kovac New Set. Flutes are from Chilliwack. The fun part in assembling this one was the feel change at 01:56. Gamelan style played on Vibraphone!

ABC Does 60's & 70's Music

This isn't new but I was just listening to it this morning and I wanted to share something, so if you haven't got this already I definitely recommend taking advantage of the free download below...

FREE MIXTAPE: Alphabethead - Music from the 1960's & 70's

Hello everybody,

Much to my delight my beaten up old ’93 Toyota Corrina has a tape deck! To me my automobile has always been seen as a walkman, with additional combustion engine. I periodically make mixtapes for my car, usually following dubious themes such as film music, 80’s Hip Hop, Kabuki/Gamelan/ethnic and dollar bin soul. ‘Dollar bin’ meaning really common $1 records... These mixes are really just a fun way of condensing my abundance of decrepit records down for listening purposes.

I’m pleased to offer one of these older mixtapes for download. It is of rather sentimental value to me as it was the sole cassette to survive an unfortunate and rather serious slip-up I had driving a car in 2008 (read: car crash). The mix is simply ‘Music from the 1960’s and 70’s’. It was the soundtrack to many a road trip and catalyst for numerous passenger sing-along’s. It’s also quite mellow in nature so makes for good anti-road rage music. I now use Marvin Gayes ‘What’s Going On?’ to quell any anger behind the wheel. It’s hard for my blood to boil whilst ‘Brother, brother, brother, there’s far too many of you dying’ is sung is such a sweet voice.

The mix is mostly pop, with a touch of folk and psych rock. Some of my most beloved songs from that era are featured; namely Jefferson Airplanes ‘Crown of Creation’, Beach Boys ‘In My Room’ and McDonald & Giles ‘Flight Of The Ibis’. Also rare Kiwi psychedelic rock bands Human Instinct and Quincy Conserve are featured. Human Instinct do a droll (but, with searing guitar solo) cover of The Kink’s ‘You Really Got Me’ to great effect!

Please check it out – hope you enjoy. You might even discover your new favourite ‘old’ band! Also available as a second generation cassette dub.

Audio: Alphabethead - There are seas on the moon, what about beaches?

This track was intended to be ‘rap’ beat based around that opening guitar loop but, as usual, I got carried away and it soon swelled into a full eight minute composition in three movements (with three tempo changes)! My warped idea for the three sections was:

i. [0:00] On earth/technical preparation

ii. [2:24] The journey to the moon

iii. [4:58] Bumping along the moon’s surface in a NASA Impala!

This is my sixth song about the moon – wish I knew why la Luna is such a reoccurring theme in my tracks? Seeing my psychiatrist on Wednesday.

This song features a lot of turntable melody scratching. This is a technique where a long tone is bent using the turntables pitch control or through manually ‘tweaking’ the speed of the record. It can be heard in the track at 1:23 and 6:01. On both occasions I’m attempting to play a ‘solo’ on the turntable – sounds like a wonky synthesizer or theremin!

When I first began playing the turntable in bands it soon became apparent that tradition scratching didn’t always meld that well with the other instruments. Anthony Donaldson encouraged me to not only use the turntable as a layer of texture or percussion but to play ‘with’ the band and even attempt carrying the lead melody of a piece! This was an amazing insight and pretty much changed my whole approach to the turntable from that point forward.

For a fantastic example of this melodic scratching style check out Kid Koala’s ‘Drunk Trumpet’:

Beautiful! High-five’s were abound the day I first saw that clip…

Audio: Alphabethead - Zombie Counter

Zombie [Counter]

I think most boys go through that whole ‘zombie/horror’ phase at least once in their lives. Often coinciding with their discovery of the holy trinity – this ain’t bible related, I’m of course referring to the Night/Dawn/Day of the Dead films. I went through this phase during my first year at Uni. One holiday I spent three coffee fuelled weeks watching nothing but zombie and horror flicks and playing Resident Evil ad nauseam. By the first week I had a sleep pattern akin to a vampire and was having living dead hallucinations constantly!

This track is inspired by the films watched during this hazy period; The Beyond, Susperia, Zombi, City of The Living Dead et al. For the opening groove I pictured the trudging march of the living dead. Didn’t realise the whole song was in 5/4 until after the fact. Fitting though - I’m pretty sure that zombies would march in 5/4! Everything except the drums and percussion are played using synth and Mellotron sounds. I layered loads of vinyl crackle and white noise to make it sound ‘weathered’ hopefully hiding the fact that it was made entirely inside a box. Wanted to channel the spirit of Goblin and Fabio Frizzi – don’t think I did either of them justice… Will try again soon, check it out:

Breakin Wreckruitment

It’s no secret that the original Breakin Wreck logo was a raptified sickle and hammer, the mic and needle being the substitutes. I always felt like we were missing something as we’ve never officially had a DJ member of the crew. Although Dan’s rellies probably think he is a DJ and no matter how many times I tell people I’m a rapper they seem to assume I must have meant DJ, the truth is this partnership between vocal and instrument has been a farce, dominated by the emcee class, the steel wheels have been oppressed. Until now that is, as we have, for the first time in about 5 years, recruited a new member to the motliest crew, Mr Alphabethead.

He’s addicted to tea, he knows more about teeth than Tourette’s knows about STDs, he’s got way longer hair than 22, and he rocks bootcut jeans. But none of that really matters all that much in comparison to what he can do to vinyl. I can honestly say that I am nose in the air proud to welcome Alphabethead as the newest member to the Wreck team. For those of you who don’t know who this guy is, allow me to explain in somebody else’s words…

Somewhere between the worlds of Hip Hop, Post Punk and Free Jazz exists Alphabethead, a tea-drinking, turntable musician from Wellington, New Zealand. A School of Medicine researcher who, after hours, hangs up the labcoat and transforms into a musician as adept at rocking boisterous Hip Hop crowds as he is to intriguing audiences at jazz festivals. Alphabethead has been described as “a virtuoso of the phonograph turntable” and “an outrageous performer whom you really must see to fully comprehend”.

Once a Champion Hip Hop DJ, Alphabethead is now an explorer/destroyer of all sound-on-vinyl. From Mongolian throat singing and psychedelic guitars to field recordings and drum-breaks – no vinyl LP is taboo. His sets always hold surprises and his unique approach allow him to coax wonderfully strange sounds from the turntable; “…a highlight was Alphabethead’s melodic turntable solo” wrote a reviewer. Expect noise, heavy beats and vinyl trashing. Imagine an aggressive Kid Koala or if Mixmaster Mike scratched post punk.

Fun Facts:
* • Consumes 15 cups of Dilmah tea daily (each cup brewed for at
least 6 minutes).
* • Represented New Zealand in the World DJ Championships at the
impressionable age of 19.
* • Has long flowing hair that often whips the needle clear off the
record.
* • Hosts a radio show dedicated to ethnic folk music and nature
field recordings.
* • Needs to seriously purge some of his enormous record collection.
* • Played turntable and percussion in bands performing compositions
tackling such subjects as the First World War, Eugenics and the
works of Edgar Allen Poe.
* • Breaks at least 1 vinyl records per show (money back guarantee).
* • Competed in the 2009 NZ Mountain Bike Championships, getting
absolutely smoked and bailing 8 times.
* • Performed live scores to three short films (using three short
turntables).
* • Has a penchant to fall asleep at the club – always during the
most intense ear-splitting heavy metal, dubstep or free noise.
* • Frequently finds LP’s that don’t exist in his reoccurring record
hunting dreams.
* • Been handed notes after gigs by cute girls with such concise
feedback as “Is this a fucking joke?”.
* • Played with Craze, So So Modern, Ruins, Sage Francis, Beans,
Damo Suzuki, Richard Nunns, The Naked & Famous, The Upbeats,
Akaname...

Tourettes Does Parachute

I’m not really a big fan of music festivals. I don’t like crowds, the bands always sound like shit and you invariably end up losing everyone you were with and wander aimlessly in the sun for hours. And yet here I was driving into a festival on an overcast Saturday afternoon. Why you ask? Well this one had a point of difference, namely 20,000 Christians. That and I had consumed enough Tramadol to kill a small elephant. I wouldn’t be alone on this adventure – my trusty side kick Colin Mitchell joined me along with American immigrant Alexis Brooks to try and find out what goes on at the infamous Parachute music festival.

Parachute is a place of rules. This became apparent quickly on our arrival at Mystery Creek just outside of Hamilton. We were ushered through a gate and told to park our car and walk for 15 minutes to collect our press passes. At the press tent we not only received our passes but also a programme and a small rule book. This outlined what was not acceptable behaviour at Parachute. There was to be no violent dancing, no alcohol, no revealing clothing and no tent sharing between unmarried couples.

We were then told to drive half a kilometre down the road to yet another gate where we could finally join the festivities.

Before entering we decided to talk to a colourful character we’d spotted on the drive in. He’d parked his caravan just outside the festival and erected a large banner that read ‘Warning: The Coming of the Socialist Apocalypse’. Our initial excitement at finding such a goldmine of insanity so early in the day quickly diminished as we listened to a stream of nonsense that included the phrases ‘New World Order’, ‘inside job’ and ‘September 11’. His gripe with Parachute was that there had been “an emergence of social justice movements and people wanting to solve the world’s problems” – when I pointed out that these seemed like positive measures, he went back to his dogmatic default setting. After a few more minutes of paranoid ramblings we managed to extract ourselves and get into the festival proper.

Media Release - 30/07/10

JAY ROACHER – IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS EP RELEASE PARTY

Live performances by JAY ROACHER w/ RIZZ KID & CAOIMHE, ALPHABETHEAD, USUAL SUSPECTS, DMN

When: Saturday 17 July, 2010
Where: 656 New North Road, Kinglsand.

He’s New Zealand’s own king of emo-grime and he’s releasing an EP called “In The Mouth Of Madness”. We had to throw him a party, and we had to throw it in Auckland. So Jay’s packing one of them big animal hats into his suit case next to fellow Christchurch rapper Rizz Kid and he’s heading north. Picking up Wellington’s genre-less turntablist Alphabethead on the way, they’ll be joining Auckland locals Caoimhe [Drab Doo Riffs], DMN, and Usual Suspects for a night of weird rap festivities.

Following up from his 2008 self-titled debut and last month’s “Judge Me Before You Know Me” mix-tape, Jay Roacher’s latest is a 6 track EP with guest appearances by label mate Tourettes and vocalist Caoimhe. The production is moody, the delivery is emotional, the catalyst is depression, and the result is good music. With a full length album out later in the year thru independent hip hop label Breakin Wreckwordz, In The Mouth Of Madness is a tantalizing appetizer.

Jay possesses all the traits you need to be a standout artist: drug addictions, dysfunctional relationships and a skewed perspective on life. What sets him apart is that he’s actually an excellent rapper. With a control of word play and imagery that puts most local poets to shame, Jay Roacher paints pictures of a mundane life only broken up with downers and dole payments. His music is honest and innovative, his live show is hype, and he wears animal hats. Aside from that he’s also a former NZ battle champion and a member of heavy smoking rap duo Cancer with Louie Knuxx.

A performer equally adept to rocking boisterous rock crowds as he is to intriguing audiences at jazz festivals – Alphabethead has been described as “a virtuoso of the phonograph turntable” and “an outrageous performer who you really must see to understand”. Once a champion hip hop DJ, Alphabethead is now an explorer and destroyer of all sound-on-vinyl. From Mongolian throat singing and heavy metal guitars to field recordings and electronica, no LP is taboo.

From ironic glee to geek faced braggadocio, positive rap duo Usual Suspects show case Saia and Sam’s maturity in music and mind (and spirit). Their trade mark sense of humour and quirk-hop beats remain intact but the music has developed beyond punch lines to include social commentary and a broader palette of ideas and experiences all of which come through in their recently released album Hire Learning.

Good News & Bad News About Jay Roacher

The bad news...

Due to a delay getting the release out today on iTunes and our lack of industry sway we have decided to push back the release of this EP to the 23rd July.

The good news...

If you are subscribed to the Breakin Wreckmail mailing list before Sunday June 20th, we will give you a free digital version of the EP with this month's news letter. Which as it happens will be coming out Sunday 20th June, so you will only have to wait one day, and it will be free. Can't be mad at that.

If you are not already a subscriber to arguably the best pound for pound news letter to come out of Onehunga you can do so by clicking here
.

We will also be having a release party 17th July where hard copies will be available so stay in tune to www.breakinwreckwordz.co.nz for info on that.

Thanks

Don't Mess With The Union!

For my fellow workers smart enough to be Unionized... check out the article in the latest Union Express.

I must point out there is a couple of mis-informations in it tho. Firstly, although I am a proud feminist, no one has ever been dropped from the label for using derogoraty terms regarding women. And when it says Wreck artists have embarked on multiple World tours, sadly only Tourettes has done one World tour and it was only like 4 countries. Still, the rest is kinda true. Check it out, I'm on a 4 day senior delegate conference in Welli as I type this so the timing is impeccable.

Poetry: Brown Jesus by Sam (Usual Suspects)

[source: www.opshopmodels.com]

I’m looking for Jesus, I’m looking for the Brown Jesus

Its been 23 years
and i’ve convincingly outgrown my white sunday suits
Bible study bookbags are so 1997
and the gold spray-painted coating on my crucifix
is almost completely faded

I’m looking for the brown Jesus

I feel like i’m living on vending machine faith
I pray every night before I sleep
but one glittery glove doesn’t make you Michael Jackson
(can somebody in the church say Amen)

I’m looking for Jesus

Yeah i’ve got pictures of him in my house
but he seems
too photoshopped
too airbrushed
too mimesis manufactured for my liking

Yeah i’ve got pictures of him in my house
but they’re just a collage of facial verisimilitudes
compacted into a caucasion man
with dreamy blue eyes and wavey hair
(Somebody say Amen)

‘Make-up on empty space’

Hegemonic interpretations inposed onto its blindfolded faithfuls

I’m looking for the brown Jesus

They sell us Heaven and the idea of God like
drug dealers and crack
but i guess the concept of afterlife security
is marketable in any language

‘Heaven for the highest bidder’

Downloadable religions at down low prices

All you have to do is hand over your soul
and your credit card details

Order in the next 10 minutes and you’ll receive a stainless steel toaster

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE…

Order now and the first 3 months are free
after that, you’re gonna be...

Poetry: Eat My Shorts

Heres a collection of short poems by Sam Tanielu (Usual Suspects) wrote, inspired by a poet called Richard Brautigan. The collection is called 'Eat my Shorts'

I had a job once
I had a job once.
The end.

Text message
After texting her to say goodnight like i always do
I think i accidentally fell in love with her again.
She doesn’t know it though, so
i’m going to sleep with the same stupid smile i had when i was 6 years old,
i farted inside church and nobody was around

I hate the internet
I hate the internet.
On my birthday, some internet arsehole
will think he’s clever and say to me
‘Happy brithday, you’re only as old as your facebook status’.

Dining Table
We laughed tonight,
she was sitting opposite me at the dining table and i pretended
i wasn’t staring at the way her lips created a smile
out of thin air.

Insomnia
I can’t go to sleep
so i’m eye-fucking the computer screen
hoping i will get it pregnant (how will she tell her parents?)
and it will give birth to a digital baby
and its digital so it doesn’t take 9 months to arrive
it takes two seconds
and now i’m paying child support
through online banking
and i have a digital baby that shuts down when
i want it to.

Yesterday
Yesterday I buried an aborted foetus in the backyard
Haphazardly trying to hide my secret from the world
But when i cried, my tears that were ironically pregnant with guilt
Fertilised the foetus and from the mess of mud grew a flower.

Baby dreams

I often wonder what babies dream about
I think its like when you buy a new wallet and there’s a picture of somebody else in it
Maybe baby dreams are the same, their dreams are already pre-packaged for them,
until they are comfortable enough to dream for themselves.

You can find Sam's poetry at http://opshopmodels.wordpress.com/poetry/ where he will be putting up new work regularly.

Tourettes Last Show Of 2010 This Week!

Tourettes is playing his last show ever in New Zealand for at least a while as he gears up for his move to live in Australia with his half-cousin Louie Knuxx.

He’ll be supported by top talent like the Drabb Do Riffs, The Usual Suspects and Jay Roahcer whilst himself delivering a super special set.

The show is on the 24th of April at Whammy Bar, K-Road, Auckland.

Tyson Tyler To Leave Breakin Wreckwordz

Over the last couple of months, Tyson Tyler and I have spent considerable time assessing our individual goals, the vision for Breakin Wreckwordz, and strategizing the best way to go about achieving those goals. It has become apparent to both of us that the path of Breakin Wreck as an entity and that of Tyson as an artist are not aligned. In a nutshell, Tyson wishes to make a career from his music, and Breakin Wreckwordz is not a profit focused organization.

As a solution to this, we have mutually decided the best solution is for Tyson to take a route independent from the label. And so, from this day forward, Tyson’s music will be released thru Tyson Tyler Music. There is absolutely no bad blood between Tyson and myself or any other member of the Breakin Wreck collective. This was simply a case of Tyson’s evolution into a genre Breakin Wreckwordz doesn’t cater for.

The first official release from the interim label will be a video single featuring Dei Hamo and produced by Yorel titled “Body Guard”. Stay tuned to www.tysontyler.com for updates.
